Poker General Concepts

Betting usually proceeds in a circle until each player has either called all bets or folded. Different poker games have various numbers of betting rounds interspersed with the receipt or replacement of cards.
Poker is usually played with a standard 4-suit 52-card deck, but a joker or other wild cards may be added. The ace normally plays high, but can sometimes play low (in none Royal Flushes). At the showdown, those players still remaining compare their hands.

Baccarat Basics
The basic game involves betting on who will win, or in some cases if their will be a tie, in a hand of cards, this is followed by the dealing of initially two cards from the shoe which usually contains eight shuffled packs to each player and the banker, depending on the values of these cards the cards may be either shown, stand or draw a third card. When dealing is complete the hand nearest to nine is the winner. The counting is a little unusual, all numbered cards have their face value picture cards count zero, cards in the hand are added numerically and if they total more than nine then tens are discounted. e.g. 4+6+7 = 17 the 1 is dis guarded and the hand is worth 7, notice you can’t go bust like Blackjack. Not exactly rocket science and the choice of when to take a third card is also predefined by the rules and is different for the banker and the players for the players the rule is

If the two cards total value is 8 or 9 then this is a “Natural” and the cards are shown and dealing stops.
For the banker the rule is if the two cards total value is

- 4 Draw unless the player’s hand has drawn and ace,8,9 or 10
- 5 Stand unless the player stood on 6 or 7 or drew a 4,5,6 or 7 in which case the banker draws a card
- 6 Stand unless the player has drawn a 6 or 7
- 7 The banker always stands
- 8-9 Natural as for the player
These rules place the odds slightly in favour of the banker accordingly bets on the player winning are paid at even money bets on the banker are evens less commission (this varies but is usually arround the 5% mark) and bets on a tie, where they are accepted are typically 8 to 1, see our Baccarat Odds page for the real odds and the implications of different commission levels. Craps
A Brief History
The exact origin of Craps like many things in life is disputed, it may be derived from ancient Arab bone rolling games / rituals that were used to predict the will of the Gods from which many dice games are said to have evolved, it probably then worked its way through France to England and then on to America. There was an English dice game called Hazard which migrated to America with the early settlers towards the end of the eighteenth century, Hazard gives the bank a good advantage and it is believed that Craps was developed as a fairer version, the name possibly coming from the term Crabs, the roll of two aces in the game of Hazard. Craps took over from Faro as the main gambling game in America and is now the most popular dice game in the world.
Overview of the Game
Craps is played with two dice which are thrown by a ‘shooter’ on a long table with boards from one to two feet high surrounding the table.
The game is played in two stages, after the initial bets are placed the shooter throws the dice. If a seven or eleven is thrown that is a natural and the throw is over, players betting on the shooter win. If two, three or twelve are thrown these are known as ‘craps’ and bets on the shooter are lost. If on the other hand the shooter rolls a four, five, six, eight, nine or ten this number is known as his point. In a land casino this is marked with a disc called a buck.
The shooter then continues to throw until he either rolls the number again ‘makes his point’, in which case bets on the shooter win, or throws a seven when bets on the shooter loose.
